Happy Sunday, my wonderful friends.
It’s been a long but beautiful day, and my heart is full. There’s much I could share, but today one moment stands above the rest.
Apologies now - no photos today, just my meme. Also, total transparency up front, my Sunday posts will most likely be religious.
I attend The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and today was my first time teaching 5–6 year olds in what we call Primary.
One boy—“Henry” (not his real name)—has a lot of energy and some challenges. When he ran passed the singing time that comes before class and went straight to our classroom and slammed the door, I followed quietly and opened the door.
I stepped into the room and there, on the chalkboard, Henry had written, in six-year-old letters, “stooopid.”
When I asked why, he said, “Because I’m dumb. I always make mistakes.”
I knelt beside him and told him I make mistakes all the time. He didn’t believe me—“Adults don’t make mistakes.” Then I pointed to a picture of Jesus and told him something important: Jesus doesn’t make mistakes. And if that’s true, then Henry isn’t a mistake either.
I told him Jesus knows his name, loves him, and that his parents love him—and so do I. His face lit up. When I asked if I could call him “Henry the AWESOME” or “Henry the SMART,” he beamed and shouted yes.
Henry came out with me and was engaged the rest of the singing time and all through the class.
Later, his dad texted to thank me for what I said to Henry. He said Henry felt like himself again and was still having a great day hours later.
The truth is, I didn’t do much. I just shared what God put in my heart. And through a little kindness, a lot of love grew.
